Do commuter benefit funds expire?

Commuter benefits do not expire. However, there are several different outcomes for unused commuter benefits.

If you voluntarily leave your company, are fired, or are laid off, the commuter benefits return to the company you work for.

If you continue to work at the same company, however, unused funds will roll over monthly and yearly.

One thing to remember is that the IRS does not allow companies to return unused funds to employees.
